Tracker Etiquette

Alabama Deer Trackers Association –

Our goal:

Promote professionalism, respect, and reliability among all licensed and vetted trackers in Alabama. Every recovery is a reflection of our association and the heritage we protect.

⸻  1. Represent the Association Professionally     •    Always communicate clearly and respectfully with hunters.     •    Be on time, prepared, and honest about availability.
⸻  2. Respect the Land and Landowners     •    Always request permission before entering any property.     •    Follow all landowner rules — gates, livestock, vehicles, etc.     •    Leave no trash or sign of tracking activity behind.
⸻  3. Honor the Hunt     •    Be discreet and respectful about a hunter’s trophy, success, or loss.     •    Never post photos or stories without explicit permission.     •    Celebrate recoveries with professionalism and integrity.
⸻  4. Safety First     •    Identify your role clearly when arriving on site.     •    Wear visible gear (especially at night).     •    Ensure firearms, blades, and recovery tools are handled safely.
⸻  5. Handle the Dog with Care and Control     •    Keep your dog under control at all times.     •    Never allow your dog to harass wildlife or livestock.     •    Maintain your dog’s training, health, and certification.  ⸻  6. Respect Other Trackers     •    Avoid undercutting or interfering with another tracker’s call.     •    Refer hunters to another tracker if you’re unavailable.     •    Support one another—our reputation depends on unity.
⸻  7. Be Honest About Results     •    Don’t promise a recovery—promise effort and experience.     •    Give realistic feedback based on sign and conditions.     •    Always prioritize ethical recovery over ego or social media.
⸻  8. Follow State Laws and Association Standards     •    Know and abide by all Alabama game recovery regulations.     •    Maintain active membership and certifications as required.
⸻  Remember: Every track is more than a blood trail—it’s a chance to uphold Alabama’s hunting tradition and earn respect for our dogs, our craft, and our association.
